In the past CIPPE 2018 international oil exhibition which was held in Beijing last week, GN brought out some new products including a compact oily sludge separation unit. And this newly built oily sludge separation unit attracted many visitors.

GN Solids Control, ever since its establishment, always set its goal as China Intelligence. Each year, GN Solids Control’s R&D team make into reality some new designs and those are always proven to be practical and efficient. For example, in last year’s CIPPE, GN took to exhibition a 30 inch bowl decanter centrifuge and a fully hydraulic decanter centrifuge, and in this year, the 30 inch decanter centrifuge was soon put into use in a TBM project and was proved to be a success and good comments from client. This year, the new equipment GN brought to CIPPE 2018 including following:
1. Mini oily sludge separation system, including pre-heating step, chemical dosing step, shaker for separating the large particles, decanter centrifuge for separating our the fine particles and a three phase centrifuge for further separating the oil, water and solids. After those treatments, the OOC could reach 2%, solids and water in oil is less than 3% and oil in water is between 50-100 ppm. By using the pipelines and valves, the chemical could be dosed both before and after shaker, and the light material before entering the decanter centrifuge could by pass the centrifuge to reduce the burden of centrifuge.
2. Vacuum pump. Vacuum pump is not exactly a new product of the year, cause last year, GN already put it into use. But this year, GN improved it and gave it to jobsite for test. It is excellent. It could transfer even solids, with a small character to flow. That’s why it is called a solids pump with wide applications.
3. GN full range of shaker screens for GN own brand shakers and other famous brands. For the frame screens, GN already upgraded them into composite material frame ones, for the hook ones, GN is upgrading them now.
4. GN core products including shale shaker, vertical cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuges of big bowl and medium size.

Drilling waste management is one of the core system GN Solids Control produces, it includes the drilling cuttings separation and also the drilling fluids separation. Dewatering unit, which is also called chemical dosing unit is one of the important components of the drilling fluid treatment systems.

In some countries and regions, it is a must that a drilling rig must be accompanied with a dewatering unit and a dewatering centrifuge, for one thing, more drilling mud could be recycled, which means to reduce the cost and save money. For another thing, it is reducing the harmful components to be discharged to the soil or environment, it helps to protect the surroundings.

GN Solids Control has been providing the dewatering unit for many years, and the dewatering unit now are more and more widely used for different applications, such as:

1. Oil and gas drilling fluids separation. After being used for a certain time, there are more and more extra fine particles in the drilling fluids, even too fine to be separated out by a centrifuge. By adding some chemicals into the fluid, the extra fine particles flocculate into bigger ones to be separated out by centrifuge.

2. In TBM, Piling and other projects, when the slurry is of higher viscosity or need to be added with some chemicals, the dewatering unit is playing an important role, just as shown in the picture, the treatment was successful.

3. In oily sludge separation projects, the added chemicals helps to separate the oil from the cuttings, which greatly increase the efficiency of centrifuge and oil water separator.

GNLW Series decanter centrifuge, especially GNLW363G-VFD, GNLW553-VFD centrifuges are always ideal choice for working together with dewatering unit. Besides those models, GN also has centrifuges with bigger length-diameter ratio for clearer separation.

The CIPPE for year 2018 will be held in International Exhibition Center in Beijing, during March 27th to 29th. Same as usual, the main players in Oil and Gas industry will attend the exhibition and show their core products and services. During the economic turbulence of the past 3 years, some companies have disappeared, while the tough ones survived. Spring of China is coming, so is the international economy of oil and gas industry.

GN will attend CIPPE 2018

It has been a routine that GN Solids Control will attend the CIPPE, bringing some new products of year. This year, GN is bringing core products including:

1. GN advantaged and core products like GNZS shale shaker, GNZJ mud cleaner, GN Decanter Centrifuges for VFD controlled and hydraulic controlled, GN composite material frame shaker screens.

2. GN new products of the year: GNSP serious vacuum pumps for solids transferring, with solids content up to 80%.

3. GN Mud Systems, a traditional GNMS-500D might be shown in exhibition, or maybe GN will bring out a completely new system, of course for separation. It might be a surprise.

GN Solids Control is one of the leading brands for solids control and waste management system, and second to none ranks among Chinese manufacturers in this industry. A lot of worldwide famous oil companies and oil drilling companies are using GN equipment and comprehensive solutions, including SINOPEC, CNPC and COSL. Recently, GN delivered main equipment for 2 sets of drilling cuttings waste management systems for CNPC.

Drilling cuttings are solids discharge from the drilling rig solids controls system, from the shakers, desander and desilters. After the solids control system’s first 3 phases separating, the drilling fluids are returned back to the system without the solids particle. But the separated-out particles are still too wet. For one thing, it is a waste for valuable drilling fluid. Secondly, it could damage to the environment if disposed directly. That’s why it is not only necessary but also mandatory to do some further treatment for the drilling cuttings.
GN Solids Control has zero discharge solutions for both WBM and OBM. And this order, combining the vertical cuttings dryer and decanter centrifuge, is for the oil based mud. A vertical cuttings dryer is specially designed for the oil based mud separation. GNCD930 series vertical cuttings dryers could dry the drilling cuttings to reach OOC value to 5%. The vertical cuttings dryer is running as the drying step of a washing machine. The vertical cuttings dryer is equipped with a screen basket with certain mesh number. Fluids pass the mesh and collected, while cuttings are stopped by mesh and falls down.
GNLW series decanter centrifuges with VFD control panels are used after the vertical cuttings dryer to remove the particles from 2 to 5 microns from the liquid. Most common model is GNLW363CG-VFD, a medium sized centrifuge with a high rotating speed. But for bigger treating capacity, GN has GNLW453C-VFD and GNLW553-VFD available, both of high rotating speed while bowl sizes are respectively 18 inch and 22 inch. In this project, clients chose GNLW453C-VFD.

A solidification unit or called solidification system is an efficient and economic solution for the treatment of drilling cuttings from both oil based mud and water based mud. Besides, it could also handle the sludge from some cuttings or waste pit. The principle is not so complicated, but the performance and continuous working ability are defining a solidification unit.

GN newest solidification unit ready for delivery

Since three years ago when GN Solids Control firstly designed and put into use the first set of GNGH Solidification unit, with the valuable feedbacks and experiences from both domestic China and abroad, GN improved the solidification unit several times. In a result, it is now more human oriented and easier to operate. This ready for delivery solidification unit is a newly designed one, and it would be its first show on client’s jobsite in a few days. It has following features comparing with previous design:

1. It is more compact than before, with a smaller cuttings feeding hopper just above the coulter mixer the solidification unit itself are changed from two pieces into one piece. It is easier for transportation and later rig up on jobsite after transportation.
2. This new one is automatically controlled by a PLC control panel. All electrical components from brand Schneider, ABB or Siemens. Main operating data could be seen clearly on the screen and touching screen is easy for operators to control.
3. Mixing time could be controlled automatically and manually. Comparing with last model, this one is equipped with an electrical valve on discharge port of the unit, by using this, the operator could control the time period for the material to stay in the mixer for a better and adjustable mixing result.
4. Three VFD’s for the feeding. In this system, there are 3 feeding hoppers, all of which are VFD controlled by the control panel, then the fed proportion of chemicals, cement and cuttings could be adjusted according to the on time being conditions.

Recently, GN has produced for 2 different clients who worked for similar projects, with following equipment and solutions:
1. GN big bowl 22 inch diameter decanter centrifuges.
2. GN chemical dosing unit
3. GN standard containers.

GN CONTAINERIZED CENTRIFUGE AND DEWATERING

GN has been providing this design for many years, and the technology is quite mature:
1. GNDU2000 Chemical dosing unit. GN has been providing the chemical dosing unit or so called the dewatering unit for many years, since some of GN clients are using GN centrifuges as dewatering centrifuges and prefer GN to make compact design for them. A chemical dosing unit is used to treat the material by some chemical methods, for example, to add some material to reduce the viscosity of material, or to flocculate the extra fine particles into larger ones, which are suitable for centrifuge use.
2. GNLW553C-VFD decanter centrifuge is a big bowl decanter centrifuge with a treating capacity up t to 90 cbm per hour, and the rotating speed could reach 3000 rpm. It is quite suitable for drilling liquid management, especially being used together with chemical dosing system. Normally, the centrifuge treating capacity for material after flocculation would be greatly reduced, that’s why a big bowl centrifuge with a large treating capacity is always used for this application.
3. 20 ft containers for housing the centrifuge and chemical dosing system, which is quite popular design. For one thing, it is more convenient and easy to transport the system when the main equipment are in standard containers. Secondly, the containers give a shield to the equipment, providing a suitable temperature and clean condition. Thirdly, the 2 sets of 20 ft containers could be put one under another, in this way, less room to be occupied.
In this design, GN engineers designed the round shaped ladders for the upper located container with the big bowl decanter centrifuge, when transporting, the ladder could be put into the container.
