Among all the centrifuges GN produces, GNLW363, the 14 inch decanter centrifuge is the most popular one, and among the 4 optional models of same size GNLW363 Decanter centrifuge, the most popular and advanced model is of course the GNLW363CG-VFD, which is a VFD controlled high speed decanter centrifuge with positive pressurized control panel with PLC smart touch screen.

The GNLW363CG-VFD is especially suitable for the high temperature conditions, and has many advantages over the fixed speed ones or the simple flame proof VFD control panel ones. But still, some end users prefer the fixed speed GNLW363CG, and the reasons are clear as below:

  1. GN CENTRIFUGES BEFORE DELIVERYIf the end user has clear idea of the requested rotation speed of the centrifuge, the fixed speed one is a good option for easy operation. It doesn’t request the jobsite operator to follow the complicated procedure as a VFD one.
  2. The VFD controlled decanter centrifuge has 2 parts, the first part is the centrifuge itself, the second part is the VFD control panel. It is large and when transportation, you need double the load and space. On jobsite also, there should be space for locate the centrifuge and VFD control panel separately. Comparing with VFD controlled decanter centrifuge, the fixed speed one is much more compact.
  3. For VFD control panel with positive pressurized function, the end users have to prepare an air compressor as the air source for the VFD control panel. It seems more work to do and higher cost. No need for this for the fixed speed decanter centrifuge.
  4. In order to achieve more optional speeds for the fixed speed centrifuge, GN also have some extra pulley and belt for providing different speeds, for different applications. End user could prepare more than one set pulley and belts for option to make the centrifuge suitable for different cases.

Among all the decanter centrifuges used for solids control and waste management systems for oil and gas drilling, they could be divided into big bowl centrifuges, medium sized decanter centrifuges and baby centrifuges. Per bowl rotating speeds, they could be divided as middle speed decanter centrifuges and high speed decanter centrifuges. Per their electric control system they are fixed speed and variable speed available.

Like GNLW363C series decanter centrifuges, GN has 4 models while 5 options available, they are highest configuration ones, for waste management use mostly, and economic standard ones. And for each configuration, end users could choose fixed speed or VFD control panel. For the economic standard option, GN has positive pressurized VFD control panel with PLC and normal VFD control panel for option.

What feeding pumps are used respectively or the decanter centrifuges per their control panels’ differences?

  1. For fixed speed control panel decanter centrifuges, you could use both the submersible slurry pump and the screw pump or called mono pump. In case of fixed speed decanter centrifuge, normally no need to change the speed and feeding capacity which is already set with a formula of centrifuge feeding speed and gearbox ratio and motor rotating speed, and etc. In order to change the feeding capacity when using the submersible slurry pump, extra liquid fed to the centrifuge could flow back via the overflow pipeline of the centrifuge. In case of the screw pump, the end user could install a mechanical devise on the screw pump as a manual valve. Such is shaped as a wheel and could be switched left or right in order to get a suitable feeding capacity.
  2. For the VFD controlled decanter centrifuges, the common and practical solution is always the mono pump or screw pump. The screw pump’s motor is connected with the control panel and on the other side of the motor is the gearbox connected with the pump rotating part. By changing the HZ via control panel, the directly connected screw pump would change the feeding speed and accordingly the feeding capacity.

  1. For VFD GNLW363, some customers decided to order an extra fixed speed package as backup. This package includes a fixed speed control panel, a set of coupling. Because in some cases, the needed speed is clear and fixed speed control panel requires less space and less expertise personnel to operate.
  2. For fixed speed GNLW363, cause the designed speed is solo, in order to get more applications, the end users could order a extra or 2 extra sets of pulley and belt for the centrifuge to reach other speeds.
  3. Telescopic skid for decanter centrifuges, which can enhance the operating altitude of the decanter centrifuge for more possibilities at jobsites. Such could provide 2.2 meter and 3.3 meter as options.
  4. Container-sized frame for decanter centrifuge and pumps. In this situation, the GNLW363 decanter centrifuge and its feeding pump, always screw pump, could be fixed in a container-sized frame, easy to transported and lift.
